Who are we as a denomination?

The Evangelical Covenant Church is a denomination of more than six hundred churches in the United States and Canada. It was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1885 as a voluntary covenant of churches committed to working together to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Covenant churches emphasize the Bible's witness to new life in Jesus Christ expressed in a day to day walk with the Lord.

What is a Covenant Church?

  • Evangelical, but not exclusive
  • Biblical, but not doctrinaire
  • Traditional, but not rigid
  • Congregational, but not independent

For more detailed information, check out the "Who We Are" page on the official Evangelical Covenant Church homepage.

Your Invitation

The most important thing we have to offer is an invitation to experience new life in Christ. In the Bible we learn that God gives new life to any person who trusts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. A trusting personal relationship with Jesus is all that is needed to be a Christian. We invite you to read "How to Become a Christian."

Who are we as a Local Church?

  •  We just celebrated our 125th Anniversary.

  •  The first church began in Lawrenceville, just a few miles from downtown Pittsburgh. It began as the Swedish Congregational Church.

  •  In 1947, the church moved to the corner of N. Highland and Stanton Aves.

  •  In 1962, the church moved to Allison Park.  Meeting in a house first, the present church building was constructed in 1967.

  •  A new addition was added in 1997.

Here are photos of the former location as well as select photos from the past. (click on a photo to enlarge)

Also, here are the the 3 last pastors of Stoneridge: Dan Johnson (79-85), John DeLancey (99-present), Rob Satterberg (86-98).
